Joyful textiles celebrating Australian landscape

From an early age, I was surrounded by my mother’s flourishing garden and her vast collection of ferns, flowers, natives and succulents.

About

I'm Louise, the artist and designer behind the patterns.

From an early age, I was surrounded by my mother’s flourishing garden and her vast collection of ferns, flowers, natives and succulents. Her love of gardening and flowers encouraged me to connect and explore our natural surroundings.

Childhood camping trips to Yurik, Boonwurrung Country (aka Wilsons Promontory in South East Victoria) first sparked my love of our country’s rugged beauty. From these special memories, my love of the Australian landscape continues to grow as I discover new incredibly unique native plants and flowers.

I now reside with our young family in the very green and leafy area of the Dandenong Ranges on Woiwurrung Country, I’m very fortunate to have an abundance of Australian native wildlife as a constant source of inspiration.

what inspires me

Exploring nature is a vital source of inspiration for my creative practise.

I observe my natural surroundings at all times, forever capturing an interesting flower, foliage or texture with my camera so I can reference it at a later date in my studio. I am very fortunate to live in a rich green environment surrounding our home in the Dandenong Ranges.

My love of creating botanically inspired artwork combines seamlessly with my other passion, textiles. Growing up loving and studying design heroes such as Florence Broadhurst, Josef Frank and Marimekko; I felt confident pursuing my dream of creating my own fabrics and wallpaper collection from my original botanical artwork.

Gardens

Public gardens are a great inspirational resource for my work. I consider an afternoon exploring a garden such a treat.

Home

My family's home is surrounded by a native garden including tree ferns and towering mountain ash eucalypts.

Textiles and Furniture

I enjoy sourcing beautifully crafted vintage furniture and working with talented upholsterers to create bespoke pieces.

Bringing the outside,
inside the home

My botanical photo bank is a vital tool for my practise, as it allows me to rediscover an old idea that was sparked by a photo taken last week, last month or many years ago!

My photos have accumulated over many years, documenting my discoveries found in public gardens, new landscapes, holidays or just from walking around our neighbourhood block.

I also like to paint by observing fresh cuttings of plants and flowers from our own native garden.

I use a combination of different mediums in my practice, including watercolour, gouache, pencil and my own photography.
